"Singapore Government Strikes Again" > Page 1, 2, 3, 4

New Lease Possible?

It is possible that Noah's Ark can lease the land on a competitive bid basis, but it depends on several factors. The government has not indicated its intentions to put the land up for "re-tender", nor if Noah's Ark would qualify to bid if it does. The possibility exists that the authorities will either change the public use designation to a more financially attractive one, (the present designation is "dog training and breeding"), or simply let the land lie fallow.

Even if Wee were allowed to bid on a new lease this option would take time and resources that simply are not available at the present, due to the forced surrender requirements. Wee has a limited amount of time to find homes for these animals, or, according to him, they will have to be destroyed.

More Singapore Drain Cats?

Although unlikely, it is possible that Noah's Ark's 200 cats could simply join the hundreds of other "Drain Cats" of Singapore. These stray cats live in city drains, and band together in their own hierachy. They have developed a symbiant relationship with the people who feed them and care for them, and are safer than they would be on the streets of Singapore.

The Singapore government considers the stray cats a nuisance to be obliterated, and although is is not against the law to feed them, criminal penalties attach to leaving food and water for them. This "crime" is considered "littering", which is punishable by a 6 month jail term, and is enforced with zeal by the government. Indeed, in 1997 a woman in her 60s was arrested for feeding stray cats. The government looks at stray cats as "vermin" and encourages its citizens to adopt the same viewpoint.

Petition for Stay

An online petition pleads the case for allowing Noah's Ark Lodge to continue its operations in providing food, shelter, and rehabilitation for Singapore's many homeless animals. You can help by signing this petition. The animals cannot speak for themselves. You can be their voice.

I signed. Will you?
