California AB395
(Editorial) Phone Calls Needed to "Fence-Sitters"
Dateline: April 22, 2003

California bill AB395 is in the hands of the B&P (Business and Professional Code) Committee now, and a hearing is scheduled for April 28, 2003. This bill is being lobbied against by veterinarian's interests, including the CVMA and the powerful AVMA, but a groundswell of input from cat lovers who want to save cats' toes can turn the tide.

There are several "fence-sitters" who might be swayed to the pro-claw position, but timing is critical. Please check this list, and if you live in the district of any of these members, pick up the phone and call their office today.
  • Lou Correa (Chairman): Orange County.
    916-319-2069.
Information says that he can't support this bill, so it is urgent that he hear from pro-claw people in Orange County.
  • Juan Vargas: southern portion of San Diego, the western portion of Chula Vista and the cities of Coronado, Imperial Beach and National City.
    (916)319-2079
  • Joe Nation: North Bay, including Marin County and portions of Sonoma County.
    (916) 319-2006
  • Ellen Corbett: San Leandro, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, Sunol, Castro Valley, Dublin, Pleasanton.
    (916) 319-2018.
