And Then There Was Shannon
His GuideCat Portfolio
July 4, 1982 - July 13, 2001

I have written how Shannon inspired many articles on these pages, but it didn't fully sink in how prominent he was to my site until I was looking for articles to feature in the newsletter I dedicated to him as a eulogy.

I found those "fun" pages, where Shannon took mouse in paw, so to speak, and wrote my weekly column for me.

Just Cattin' Around
Rainy Day Blues

Of course, Shannon also had to have his own Postcard, which epitomizes for me his constance, faithfully waiting for a bit of attention from me in between keystrokes on my computer.

Then there were the numerous articles inspired by the small daily vignettes in a home with cats. Shannon and his buddy Arthur both figured prominently in these.

Cats as Best Friends
The Purrfect Cat
Food Fight!
Just Another Day
Ode to Shannon (In Poems and Haiku)

Where's a Cat When You Need One?

Finally, Shannon was the inspiration for a number of health-related articles, both general and specific, as he aged and fell victim to various physical maladies.

Writing for a cat lovers' community is enriching and rewarding, both in the knowledge I've gained and passed on to others, and in sharing the same kinds of day-to-day experiences with my readers. I can read an email or a forum member's post, and think, "Aha! I know just exactly what she's talking about," and click, a connection is made.

The sharing and caring both contribute to long-lasting relationships, most of them with people I'll never meet "in real life." Truthfully, though, the Net is real life. We are all real people, though we are all scattered across the globe. The cats we write about with love and passion are real indeed, each with his or her own special, unique, personality.

After I announced Shannon's death in my newsletter, I was overwhelmed and buoyed by the many emails and cards I received, from folks whose lives had been touched by Shannon's stories in one way or another. Many of them wrote to tell me of their own feelings about kitties they had lost, or who are presently in ill health, and another connection was made.

I'd like to share some of those messages with you.
