Living Free Sanctuary to Close

TIME SENSITIVE:
May 1, 2001

"We have an obligation to better the lives of the animals with whom we share the earth."

Emily Jo Beard, founder of Living Free

A little over twenty years ago, Emily Jo Beard purchased the 160 acres that was to become Living Free Animal Sanctuary, seeing it as the perfect place for her dream: a sanctuary for homeless animals. Living free started with ten dogs, five cats, and one woman, and under her compassionate steerage, grew to what it is today: a last-ditch refuge for animals facing euthanasia at shelters that .

Its founder lived to see her dream fulfilled, but she would be devastated to know that Living Free must soon close its doors -- permanently. If funds are not secured to continue operations, the 75 dogs and 125 cats must be placed in permanent homes or foster homes by the end of May, and Emily Jo Beard's dream will be no more.

Time is running out for the animals fostered at Living Free, but you can help!
