Cats Site 101

Navigating The Cats Site

Quite often I receive e-mail from visitors who could have found the answer to their questions right here on the Cats site, if they knew where to look. This is a large site, and to make it easier for folks to find their way around, I'm including this handy navigation tool. Sort of a Cats Site 101, if you please. NOTE: Once you've gotten the "hang of it", you'll find that every Guide site at is laid out in a similar pattern. So, take my hand and follow me closely, as we explore this site.

If you've bookmarked the site, you probably have something like: Cats- . This will land you on the main "Welcome" page, so let's go there and take a look.

The column on the left side of the "Welcome Page", "NetLinks" (fig. 1) is organized alphabetically by topic, and is exactly what the name implies. Here you will find in-depth resources, from personal cat pages to technical medical treatises on feline ailments. Clicking on "Behavioral Issues", for instance, will bring you to a list of links to articles and web pages covering problems like inappropriate elimination, fighting, and clawing. The first part of this section "From Your Cats Guide", contains articles from my archives and other Guide Extras I've written on problem behavior. The second section, "Elsewhere on " contains links to relevant articles by other Guides. Last, "Recommended Web Sites" is self-explanatory. This "NetLinks" section on the main page is just part of the entire Net Links Resource page. You'll see "more links" at the bottom of the list, which will direct you to the entire resource area of Net Links.

If you look at the "Content" area of the top Index of the "Welcome" page, (fig. 2) you'll notice another link to "NetLinks", so no matter where you happen to be on the site, you can easily find that resource section. Sharing the area with the "Content" section are links to Cats Chat, the Cats Forum, Events Calendar, a tool to e-mail the site URL to a friend, and a signup for my Newsletter.) The Index section also includes links to several shopping areas, and you'll find an identical Content Index on every internal page on the site, for ease of navigation.

fig. 3 Continuing on the "Welcome" page, directly underneath the Net Links section is the "Community Section" (fig. 3), where you will find an e-mail and FAQ link; another link to the Cats Chat Room, and one for subscribing to my bi-weekly newsletter, Feline Fine. Incidentally, the chat room is open 24/7, so drop in anytime.
