~~ Expensive Stray ~~
"After moving into my new apartment around Thanksgiving last year, we quickly got to know the local tom cat - a very affectionate long haired tabby cat that reminds me of a Maine Coon, although I have no idea what he actually is. After a couple of weeks of spending time on our porch we let him in and since then he's sort of made himself at home, got to know our three cats and comes and goes as he pleases. He is very loving and will sit in your lap for hours at a time. When he's ready to go out (all our others are indoor cats) he will stand by the door and mieow. He does the same thing when he's ready to come in too.

We've been meaning to have him fixed, but haven't done so yet.

The other day he went missing for about 24 hours and I was really worried about him but when he was on the porch waiting for us last night, I was really relieved. However, in the 24 hours since he got home, he has slept most of the time and hardly eaten or drunk anything.

Something about him just didn't seem right and so this evening we took him along to the all-night vet clinic to see what was the matter. Turns out the poor thing has 105.6 fever, is dehydrated and is very tender and sore in his back end and tail. We think he may have been hit by a car and may have a broken tail. The bill is going to be in the region of $600 - all this for a stray cat who isn't really ours, although we decided tonight that from now on he will be ours and, no matter how much noise he makes at the door, he will be an indoor kitty!

I hope he's ok. His blood work came back normal and they've got him on IV fluids, but they didn't have the x-rays back yet because an emergency had come in.

Keep your fingers crossed for B.J.

------- So long for now -------

My dear old Shannon is helping me write this newsletter. We took him to the vet last night for another blood test. With FIV and CRF, it's important to keep on top of his overall condition. I told the receptionist, "We're here to make our weekly deposit." Asa grumbled all the way home.

If you enjoy this newsletter, send it to a friend, and send me an email. I'm a real person and I like to get feedback. If you didn't enjoy it, send me an email anyway and tell me why.
