Top Cat Beds

Including Beds, Sofas, and Window Perches

By , About.com Guide

In response to the question "where does your cat sleep?" your response might be "anywhere he wants." Many of us share our beds with our cats, but cats also need their own private beds for snoozing, or just for being alone for awhile. These selections fit a variety of needs, for napping, window gazing, or therapeutic relief.

1. Petmate Burrow Bed

I like Petmate products for their consistency in quality. The 24" Burrow Bed provides a "nesting" comfort in berber fleece with its high back which shields the cat for privacy. The exterior is faux suede.

2. Drs.Foster & Smith Berber Cat Slumber Nest

The good doctors use a high density "orthopedic" foam for this bed, and cover it with soft berber fleece, available in several colors. The bed is recommended for senior or arthritic pets, but would make a fine choice for any cat.

3. Petmate Pet Cuddler Bed

Another winner from Petmate. The Pet Cuddler Bed is simple with no frills. The bed exterior is twill, inner lining is a cozy berber fleece. A small indentation at the front of the bed makes entering easier for small kittens or arthritic cats. (Wish they made a giant size for humans.)

4. Drs.Foster & Smith Deluxe Slumber Ball

This cozy nest looks like a veritable playground for kittens. The cute "peppered paw" polyester plush cover is zippered for easy removal and machine washing. The inside is stuffed with springy MiracleLoft® polyfil Guess what? It's made from recycled soda bottles. The Peppered Paw comes in charcoal, forest, moss, and semisweet color combinations. Available in 18", 26", 32", and 38" diameter sizes.

5. Cat Napper Window Perch

Some cats enjoy a "bed with a view" and the Cat Napper gives window viewing advantage to add to it's snooze factor.

This is more of a hammock than a bed, and the sleeping area molds to your cat's body. Sized 24" by 15" (big enough for two cats), the Cat Napper fits most window sills; holds up to 35 pounds. Its faux fleece cover keeps cats warm and cozy while bird-watching from the safety of your home.
