Top Cat Beds

Including Beds, Sofas, and Window Perches

By Franny Syufy, About.com

In response to the question "where does your cat sleep?" your response might be "anywhere he wants." Many of us share our beds with our cats, but cats also need their own private beds for snoozing, or just for being alone for awhile. These selections fit a variety of needs, for napping, window gazing, or therapeutic relief.

1. Drs.Foster & Smith Traditional Bed

I like this bed because it is available in several sizes, uses (replaceable)cedar and poly fill, and has a heavy fabric cover that is stain and water resistant, as well as washable. Cover replacements are also available.

2. Petmate Burrow Bed

Cats sometimes need to "get away from it all," and the Petmate Burrow Bed gives them that opportunity. The attractive "leopard" design and the domed cover make it a bed you don't mind having on display (in a corner of your room, for privacy, of course). The Petmate name behind it also gives it the stamp of approval.

3. Drs.Foster & Smith Berber Cat Nest

The good doctors use a high density "orthopedic" foam for this bed, and cover it with soft berber fleece, available in several colors. The bed is recommended for senior or arthritic pets, but would make a fine choice for any cat.

4. Drs.Foster & Smith Super Thermal Sill Cup

Similar in shape to the Berber Cat Nest, this bed has window mounting for kitty's indoor bird watching. The bed is constructed of orthopedic foam and covered with a removable natural colored fleece cover. The bed includes a UL-approved heater, which is also removable. This Sill Cup is highly versatile, as the bed portion is also removable for use anywhere in the home.

5. Jungle Pet Beds

These comfy beds come in lush exotic patterns, including leopard, zebra, lynx, and tiger. Fully washable, the beds are 20" in diameter and 7" high, for "snugglebility."

6. Cat Napper

This is more of a hammock than a bed, and it gives window viewing advantage to add to it's snooze factor. Sized 24" by 15" (big enough for two cats), its faux fleece cover comes in both solid colors and paw print design.
