The Bottom Line

Clea Simon's first fiction book introduces Theda Krakow, a freelance writer (who happens to love cats), as an "accidental sleuth." I'll be looking forward to more adventures starring Theda and her fuzzy sidekick, Musetta.

Guide Review - Mew is for Murder, by Clea Simon

Theda Krakow, a freelance journalist who loves cats, stumbles upon a stray kitten in her neighborhood, who leads her to a house apparently occupied by a cat hoarder. But is the elderly Lillian Helmhold a crazy cat lady, a cat collector, or a responsible woman who just saves cats from life on the streets? Before Theda can return to interview the woman from an assignment she's wangled, Lillian is murdered, and the only apparent witnesses all walk on four legs.

Theda's original assignment turns into a search for clues to the identity of the murderer. She has several assistants, and a couple of antagonists, and the secret is in telling one from another. The plot twists much like a cat winding itself around your legs, and you can be sure that cats play a large part in the solution of the crime.

A terrific first fiction book by the author of The Feline Mystique.I'll definitely be on the lookout for more Theda Krakow!
