By , About.com Guide

There were nine finalists in the Most Unforgettable Adopted Cats Contest, listed here in the order of the final vote.

The voting polls closed on July 31, 2010 at midnight ET.

Congratulations Steve, the winner, Kukla, first runner-up, and Sierra, the second runner-up. ALL the cats in this contest were winners, in my book.

Steve, WINNER, Most Unforgettable Adopted Cat

Wendy Grellinger tells Steve's story:

"I adopted Steve from Geauga Humane Society. He was about one. I was strongly attracted to this blind cat. He would pace back and forth from side to side all day long in his cage. It was very sad to see him doing this. When I took him out, he seemed so grateful just to be touched and held. His spirit called out to me. It was time for this cat to get out of the cage and live a long fulfilling life.

He has become Cat-Ambassador in my small community of 261 homes. He shows people that you can enjoy life regardless of the hurdles that you encounter along the way. The kids stop to pet him. When they interact with Steve they learn a lot about compassion for both animals and humans with physical disabilities.

Kukla, First Runner-Up

Kukla was adopted from a rescue at 8 weeks. Jo Ann share's Kukla's story:

"When we opened the cage she immediately clung to my son & proceeded to climb her way up his arm to the top of his shoulder purring/rubbing her way into his heart & it was love at first sight! Basically, she chose us & we couldn't be happier

Kukla was, thankfully, rescued by the Queens chapter of Animal Care and Control in the winter of 2009, at just a few weeks of age, when she and her 4 siblings were found abandoned. She went through a lot from being abandoned then picked up and shuffled from one strange place to another. Dogs barking, strange noises and lots of strange faces. It breaks my heart, but I am so thankful for the good people who do this important work.

Sierra, Second Runner-Up

Bungies found Sierra through Petfinder.

"Sierra was a 6 month old Siamese who would soon become a tripod because some horrible person had tossed her from a vehicle and her leg was broken beyond repair. She was up and purring within a few hours after surgery. The next day she was trekking around the shelter. She came home a few days after her amputation.

"Sierra is loving, funny and most of all memorable. She only has three legs so she is visually memorable but mostly you remember her huge personality. Her favorite past time is to chatter at birds. She yowls loudly while holding her stuffed toy in her mouth. At other times, her meows sound like a duck (mwak, mwak) and you just have to laugh."

Atticus, Third Runner-Up

Atticus was rescued at 4-6 weeks old after being thrown out of a truck. He is now 14 months old. Atticus1980 tells the story:

"My wife and I saw a driver toss something out of a truck window, which rolled underneath the truck. Once the truck drove by, we saw a little kitten get up from the middle of the road, and walk off onto the grass. I turned around, and pulled over and picked him up."
