AAFCO Definition: Ground Corn

By Franny Syufy, About.com

Definition: Ground Corn: The entire ear of corn ground, without husks, with no greater portion of cob than occurs in the ear corn in its natural state.

Let's see if I understand this completely: "with no greater portion of cob than occurs in the ear corn in its natural state." I'd interpret this to mean that each ear of corn is ground as-is with no extra cobs thrown it. Terrific! The bottom line is that this filler is largely cob with a minimum of whatever nutritional value the corn might offer.

Also Known As: (ground ear corn)
Examples:
Ground corn is used in some cat foods as a filler, and because it is a much cheaper source of protein than muscle meat.
