My cat's name is Spike (because he's all black except for a spot on his throat and the tip of his tail which is silvery white and it looks like his tail has a spike at the end of it). I adopted him when he was only 2 months old from the Orange County Animal Shelter in October of '07. I fell in love with this beautiful black kitty as soon as he drew me to his holding cage… I turned around and he started pawing at me. I knew right away he was going to be coming home with me.

After the first 2 days he got a really bad upper respiratory infection. I immediately took him to the vet, who told me that it was too much trouble; he probably wouldn't survive it because he was so malnourished and sick. He said I should take the kitty back and change him for a healthier one. Instead, I changed my vet! One year later he's as healthy and happy as could be. He is the cutest! Even my "non-cat loving" friends like him and think he's great! Hopefully soon, I can get him a little sister or brother to play with. Another black cat of course!

Spike is a handsome black cat and the window photo is exquisite. I am particularly appreciative of the fact that Lizvette did not give up on this kitten at the insistence of a callous veterinarian, but gave up on the vet instead.

Spike's photo also appears in the 2008 Black Cats Picture Gallery. My Cat of the Week photos are chosen from general photo submissions which followed the Photo Submittal Guidelines.
