A Handsome Feral Cat Found at the Pentagon

From Franny Syufy, About.com

If the picture hadn't swayed me, John's fascinating story about Capt. Blue surely did.

John M. Gleason, Jr.
This is my great friend in the back yard in Alexandria, Virginia. I found him at the Pentagon and we have been friends ever since. His name is appropriately Capt. Blue, USMC. A great diet & exercise program has resulted in his tremendous physical condition of 18 pounds and thin. He has a large frame over which to spread this amount of weight. He is an expert tree climber, enjoying showing off to all sidewalk onlookers.

As I said, his pedigree is the best: he was a feral cat found at The Pentagon. Marine Corps legend has it that he traces lineage to 2 kittens rescued by Force Recon Marines at the Citadel of Hue during the Tet Offensive. The 2 little refugees were subsequently brought back to Quantico, in an ammunition box, by a bird colonel. Their offspring line the east & west banks of the Potomac, Quantico to Alexandria. Visitors to Washington, walking the Potomac River in the early evening, are often surprised by the almond shaped eyes peering at them from the reeds along the river banks.
