One day he noticed the farmer's truck in the yard and thinking they had come back to get him, he jumped into the pickup truck, just as the farmer was about to leave. As he was driving along the highway, the farmer was aware there was a scuffle going on in the back of his truck but didn't stop. Bart was terrified when he discovered there was a rotweiller dog in the back. The dog lunged at Bart biting him on his side; he hid behind some straw and snow in the truck. When the truck arrived back at the farm he jumped out and hid. Many days later they noticed he had a severe wound to his side and was very thin, had an eye infection, upper respiratory, and was sneezing constantly. Nothing was done to help him.
He was finally rescued by a Pet Rescue Agency and brought to a Vet. They decided he had too much wrong with him and as no one was available at the time to help him out, it was decided that he be euthanized. However, just as they were going to euthanize him he was rescued by a lady who volunteered to foster him until a suitable home could be found for him. After a couple of months being in a cage in her garage in June of 2006 and still no one wanting to adopt him we took him into our house.
Bart has almost fully recovered now as of June of 2008, he has given us so much joy and companionship, he is one lucky boy. His life was well worth saving, and has helped ease the pain so much that we suffered when losing our buddy Norton. Bart is such a loving and friendly cat. He runs to meet all who arrive; our other cats just adore him and all want to share their time sleeping or cuddling up with him.
