Bi-Color Cats Picture Gallery: Pippa

Featuring Bi-Color Cats for the June Cats Calendar

Tabby's Place is one of my favorite sanctuaries for cats in the world. Pippa is a very lucky kitty, having two back-to-back matches made in heaven.

Picked up as a kitten near a firehouse in New York City, Pippa was deemed vicious, her folder slapped with a red "CAUTION" sticker, by the high-kill city shelter. Fortunately, Pippa wasn't euthanized for her biting, scratching, hissing ways - instead, she won the shelter-cat lottery and was rescued by Tabby's Place.

I entered the story a month or so later, with no plans of adopting a second cat at that time. In fact, I'd come into Tabby's Place to interview for the position of Development Associate. I was quite early, and made conversation with the Sanctuary Operations Manager. Within moments of meeting me, with some intuition that amazes me, she said, "there's a cat I really think you should meet." It happened rather quickly: I picked Pippa up, she licked my face all over and head-butted me with gusto, and I was "gone." (I also got the job - truly the sweetest I've ever had!)

So what happened to that biting, scratching beast? I will never know; the Tabby's team says she was nothing but a sweetheart in her time there, and, while she has a quite feisty side, Pippa hasn't shown the faintest glimpses of the terror-cat she seems to have been in New York. (I cracked up when I saw her NYC cage card, with a photo of her, as a small kitten, hissing and snarling - it looked like an image from a horror movie, not my little Pippa-pie!) Now just over a year old, Pippa's favorite hobbies include face-licking, sink-napping and carrying toys in her mouth. Apparently born without fear (she'll even 'take on' the vacuum cleaner, jumping sideways towards it as if to intimidate it), Pippa is a little white hurricane of energy and affection. While it took Dibbles some time to get used to this hyperkinetic little one, they now groom and play with each other regularly, and are at peace with each other enough that they will both sleep under the covers with me each night.

As you can see, on top of her fabulous personality, my "Pippi" is absolutely adorable. And I am absolutely grateful for her every day! :-)
