1. What Human Foods Are Toxic to Cats?

The main reason I discourage feeding cats "people food" is that there are a number of foods that are toxic to cats. You may have forgotten that the gravy slathered over your Thanksgiving turkey used broth that was flavored with onion, among other things. While it is tasty and harmless to humans, onions are very toxic to cats.

Keep in mind that variable factors, such as heredity, diet, environment, and physical and medical care may affect your cat's comparative age to that of a human. Although you probably don't have any control over heredity, you do have options for controlling the other factors which control your cat's aging process.

Although telling the sex of an adult cat is relatively easy, kittens are harder to determine. It will be very difficult to accurately tell the sex of a kitten until it is at least two weeks old, and even then, both experienced breeders and veterinarians have been known to make mistakes.

4. Signs Your Cat Is Pregnant

If your cat was in heat and had access to a tom or un-neutered male cat, the likelihood that she is pregnant is very strong. The gestation period for cats runs from 60 to 67 days.

Siamese cats are one of several pointed cat breeds, and are among one of the oldest and most popular cat breeds. Known affectionately as "Meezers," it's no wonder so many people exclaim, "Make mine Siamese, if you please."

6. Persian Cat Breed

Persian cats originally came from Persia (now known as Iran), and Turkey where were found solid colored long haired cats. And the people in Great Britain found these cats quite beautiful, imported them, and then started to breed them together and to create a solid color cat that had characteristics similar to what we see today: big bones, large head, round open eyes, small ears, and long coats. The long coats are a very important part of the Persian breed.

7. Maine Coon Cat Breed

The Maine Coon is the only cat that has written into its breed standard that it has to have a gentle disposition. Because of their relatively large size as adults, Maine Coons are known as the gentle giants of the cat world. Add their incredible beauty and sweet dispositions, and it's no wonder the Maine Coon is consistently rated one of the top 10 most popular cat breeds year after year.

8. How to Bathe a Cat

Unless you show your cats regularly, or have one of the high maintenance breeds, you will rarely have to bathe your cat. Using its tongue, teeth, and claws, a cat does a remarkably expert job of bathing itself.

However, the time may come that kitty has gotten exceptionally dirty, and will need your help getting clean again.

9. How to Change a Litter Box

One of the top reasons cats avoid using the litter box is that it isn't clean enough for their fastidious sense of scent. Keeping a litter box scrupulously clean is important. Clumping litter has made it easier to scoop out waste at least twice daily. However, litter boxes still need a regular thorough cleaning, then refilling with new litter. The time span between these chores will vary, depending on the type of litter and the number of cats using the box.

The Abyssinian was first registered in Europe, although it is one of the oldest known breeds of cat and is known to start in ancient Egypt. Actually, the Abyssinian is seen in some of the ancient Egyptian drawings in some of the pyramids. And, often times, we see Abyssinian like looks in those drawings and so it's known that the Abyssinian is one of the very original breeds of cat.

Since medical problems involving the urinary tract or constipation or diarrhea, may be reasons why cats stop using the litter box, it is important to have the cat first examined by your veterinarian. Once health has been eliminated, it's time to look at other possible issues, such as dirty litter box, a change in litter, or moving the litter box.

12. American Curl Cat Breed

The most unique attribute of the American Curl cat is its distinctly curled ears. At first glance, one might confuse a Scottish Fold for an American Curl, but if you look carefully, you will see distinct differences, both in the direction of the ears and in the general body conformation.
