When we moved in together in 1978 (back in the ice ages), I gave a gray kitten to commemorate the occasion, which I'd named Sam. DH immediately renamed the cat Samuel T. Bandit Cat Esquire, claiming that the long tufts of hair between "his" toes obscured "his" paw prints at crime scenes… The name stuck despite the fact that Samuel turned out be a "she," a fact unknown until she loudly and enthusiastically went into heat at four months. This led to a long train of strange cat names based on DH's bent sense of humor, including to name a few, Chicken Pie Chkai, Stubby Joe, the Half-a-Tail Cat, and Thomas/or/Jerome (as he named my Mom's cat, since the family couldn't choose between the two). Today, he happily serves Bugs, the Magnificant Paw, The DREADED Tum, Aine One-Orange-Toe (known as OOT), and The Masked Chuff.
As you can see, DH has a great sense of humor (one of his most endearing attributes), which is a good thing, given that he's allowed this photo to be posted for all to see. The white cat with a Cheshire expression sleeping beside him is his beloved Anu, Daemon Dominatrix. From the moment she entered our home, no other human being has ever existed for her except DH, who returns her worship without reserve or shame.
