Our cat rescue group received an e-mail about a cat whose "face was split open and whose eye was hanging out." The location where Timmy was found is near a lake where there are wild animals, as well as other cats. The person who contacted us helped us locate this kitty to get him his care. Our vet's office nicknamed him "Freddy Krueger" - that's how bad he looked when he first came in for care. Turns out, this cat had a very bad infection that had eaten around his neck into one of his eyes, and was about to claim the other one. In the nick of time, our vet was able to save one eye. The other one had to be amputated.

Thus, though not owned by anyone, Timmy has turned out to be one of the sweetest, most thankful animals you would ever want to meet, as though he knew his new foster mom, Deb, and his adopted mom, Martha, were just waiting for him to arrive. Thanks to months of TLC and lots of Vitamin E on his neck wounds, Timmy was spared from skin graft surgeries.

As his wounds healed (and, his first foster mom was undergoing medical procedures of her own), Timmy was moved to a new foster home. Needless to say, being the charming boy he is, Timmy won the hearts of his new foster family and they adopted him as their own. (The resident cat, "Candy", wasn't happy, but reluctantly, adjusted). One of Timmy's (now re-named "Loki") trademark characteristics is the "whirring" sound he make when you let him know you are even thinking about him. (He's a charming boy alright).

Needless to say, Loki now has his own fan club and has cemented himself into the hearts of our volunteers as the reason every second of rescue is worthwhile. In the long run, we humans are the beneficiaries.
