D'Ni, Finally Indoors
But one morning, just a few days before Christmas, DH and I were planning on having a leisurely breakfast (he was cooking eggs). I went out onto the back porch to check on D'Ni. She was in the kennel. I squatted down to peer at her. She stayed put. I quickly reached out and closed the door, and she exploded. She was desperately trying to get out. We grabbed our coats, and rushed off to the vet with this cat who was doing damage to herself with all that banging about. We brought her in for spaying and vaccinations. The vet's office didn't really believe she was feral. They soon learned, however, when she trapped the kennel kid who had opened her cage. Apparently she flew out claws unbarred and left him cowering in the corner. The staff had to come in with nets to catch her again. She did get spayed (even though she was pregnant - we told the vet to do the spay regardless, given the previous lost litter. Around that time, Sebastian, a stray joined her. Sebastian showed D'Ni the ways of a tame cat. We started trying to feed the two cats inside. Sebastian readily came in. D'Ni did not. When we finally did get D'Ni to come in, we could not close the back door behind her. So we had to sit there, shivering, watching these two cats eat, while, our other 5 cats clustered around the closed kitchen door wondering who was behind it.
