Jaspurr Was Bubba's Kitten From the Beginning

Franny Syufy
For many years, Bubba was the "baby" of our cat family. We moved to our present home in 1985 with Shannon and Arthur. As the years passed though, and Shannon aged, he finally deferred to Bubba as the alpha cat of our household. After losing Arthur in 1999 and Shannon in 2001, Bubba was our only cat. He was 16 at the time, an age where cats do not normally welcome the intrusion of new cats to a home.

However, when I found myself for the first time in many, many years without the present of a marmelade cat in my life, I knew that one day I needed to find one. An older cat was out of the question - Bubba would never have tolerated another cat that might have challenged his alpha status. To my way of thinking, a kitten might be more acceptable, however kittens exude such boundless energy that that could have also been a problem.

I came up with an ingenious solution to my dilemma: two kittens, reasoning that they could keep each other company and out of Bubba's hair, so to speak. It took several months to convince Asa of the concept and two more months to find a likely pair of kittens. Jaspurr and Joey entered our lives in April of 2002, after a long search.

It wasn't long before Bubba adopted Jaspurr as his kitten. Perhaps it was because of Jaspurr's resemblence to Shannon, or many just the magic of the little guy's personality, but the two bonded almost immediately.
