Name, Gender, and Age of Your Black Cat

We've had two black cats...Oscar and Boris who both lived to be 16 years old.

How I Came to Love Black Cats

When I was 11 years old, we "baby-sat" our neighbor's black cat, who turned out to be pregnant, and gave birth to a litter of four black kittens. We kept one of them and that was our MISS Oscar (yes, Oscar was a girl) and she eventually moved with me when I grew up and left home.

When Oscar was 10 years old, a friend came across an abandoned litter of black kittens near her home, so we took one of them in. This was Boris.

How Black Cats Differ from Other Cats

I've learned that black cats seem to be more affectionate than others. Both Oscar and Boris were very lovable and needed a lot of attention. Boris was the ultimate lap cat his entire life, loved to be held, enjoyed getting kisses, and also was very vocal in letting us know exactly what he wanted. However, he was never bossy - he always patiently waited his turn and was very polite to the girl cats.

Oscar was affectionate also but not a lap cat - she preferred that I get right there on the floor with her. She was a big girl, so holding her wasn't easy, but she loved attention. She learned to speak certain words to tell us what she wanted, but otherwise she was a very polite cat as well.

They both lived long, healthy lives with us at our "Cat Spa" and it was excruciatingly difficult when the time came to let them cross the Rainbow Bridge. We were blessed to have them in our lives and will never, ever forget them.
