How I Came to Love Black Cats

As we started down the stairs of a cat foster families' home to look at their kittens, a small black cat came running up to meet and greet us. We thought she was one of the kittens, but she turned out to be the mother, a very young mother. The three kittens were adorable and looked like seal point Siamese. On the spot we decided we wanted to adopt the mother and the female kitten, as we wanted two cats who would be friendly to each other. Epidote, as we named the mother because of her beautiful green eyes, was a wonderful mother to her kiitten. But she always took time to be a real sweetie to us, as she still is.

How Black Cats Differ from Other Cats

The eyes of black cats are amazing! Epidote has green or yellow eyes, depending on the light conditions, and they are huge! When she looks at us, we can see the wisdom behind those big eyes. As with all black cats, her shape is so easy to see and so sleek. She reminds me of a silhouette cut from black paper and loves to sit regally so we can enjoy her beuatiful body. I know one other black cat, my son's cat, and both of them have very dainty feet and very soft fur.

Tips and Tricks

  • They can communicate just by looking at us with those big eyes.
  • They are very affectionate.
  • They are very wise, or at least look like they are.
  • Don't buy a white couch if you have a black cat.
  • Black cats are difficult to photograph.
