The Most Fun Part of Blogging

My blog is about the cats at the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a Cat Care volunteer there for 12 years. I photograph the cats and write profiles for Petfinder.com and for the shelter website. The blog has given me a little more freedom to tell "the rest of the story" from a volunteer's perspective. It will also help me reach a wider audience and increase awareness of the shelter. It's wonderful to know that I've brought a cat to someone's attention and it has been adopted.

The Hardest Part of Blogging

Finding the right words to turn what could be a negative into a positive. Not being too hard on people who turn in their cats to the shelter. Staying upbeat, at least to some extent, when it's been a hard day at the shelter.

Advice

  • I'm still very new at this, but I think you have to have a passion and a goal to stick to doing a blog. And I think you have to recognize that it takes time to build a readership. For me, it's remembering that this isn't about me, it's about the cats.
