What I Did:

I got Mimosa last summer via a friend of a friend. I wasn't in the market for a cat, but when the email came through with her picture I was immediately enamored. When I saw that her name was also a favorite cocktail of mine it felt like destiny. I replied with enthusiasm and was selected to be her new "cat mommy". A title, at the time I found ridiculous, but now I'm quite proud to be one.

Oh, I also found out that her name wasn't in celebration of the famous brunch cocktail, but rather a Spanish word for cuddly, which Mimosa lives up to.

How I Did It:

She looks like Wilford Brimley and Garfield mated.

Mimosa is a chubby cat who likes it when you watch her eat, scratch her head, and has to be in the same room as you. She meows often, as if to tell me she's the real boss of the house. I have yet to give over ownership and still believe if she's not going to get a job and live rent free she should at least do the dishes.

We're compromising with morning cuddles.

Lessons Learned:

  • Never leave Mimosa's dish empty for a minute, unless you want her to meow forever
  • Always leave a faucet dripping so Mimosa can put her paw under it, catch drips and then lick the water off of it for hours upon hours.
