Calico Sisters Sugar and Spice

Took me forever to find her, she blended in!

Cat's Name & Age:

Sugar & Spice, 1 1/2 year old sisters

Best Characteristics of the Calico

I think it would definitely have to be their coloring. They are all so unique. We have four and no two look alike. These two may be sisters, but are so different in every way!

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Calico

I'm not sure if it is because they are Calico, or just being themselves, Sugar is independent, aloof and a one person cat. Spice is loving, clingy and a watch cat; chases everything out of the yard!

When, Where and How I Got My Calico

These two kitties came into our lives as four week old kittens. Taken away from their mom too young, we bottle fed them for several weeks trying to get this puny and pitiful pair up and going! We finally succeeded and they've been going strong ever since! They are both very small cats, but I think maybe this was due their rough start in life. A truck driver dropped them off at the sand plant that my "honey" is superintendent over. He brought them to me with the intentions of them being his, (when they were all well!) but when you are "momma" to such sweet babies, that just isn't going to happen! So they are mine!

I'd Describe My Cat As…

Sugar is a "momma's girl"! When I stretch out on the couch, all I have to do is mention the word "nap" and she comes running. Stands there waiting for me to get the pillow "just right", (sleeps with her head on it) and she plops down and rolls over for a belly rub. Let anyone else try to even pet her, and it's met with hisses and down right GROWLS! If they persist, she has been known to give 'em a good pop! Spice is a whole 'nother story! Pet her once, doesn't matter who you are, and she's all yours! Jumping in your lap, purring and rubbing you with her head as if to be petting you back! But let a strange cat or even a dog come into the yard and she transforms into a "she-devil on steroids"! She only weighs about five pounds, but it doesn't seen to bother her! She lets out a blood curdling scream and goes flying out after them ALL the way out of the yard! Gotta love her, she means well! They've both been pretty much healthy since they were teenagers, and no problem to train. They make life here on Sandy Lane Farm very interesting!

Advice

  • As with any cat, be sure to have regular visits to your veterinarian for shots and etc., and spay or neuter! They count on us and they pay us back so much more! ;-)
