When, Where and How I Got My Calico
In 1995, Nora was dropped off at my sister's farm in Virginia with her mother and 3 littermates. When I went to visit, she and her sister were the only ones left. They were 5 months old. They were very friendly and not at all feral. I will never understand why someone threw them away. They came home with me. Nora and I have been together since then. We became close very quickly since they lived in my bedroom for the first month, away from our other cats (spaying, leukemia testing, etc.). Even when they joined the other cats Nora and I stayed close. We are very interdependent now, sharing a room in long-term care.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Loving, affectionate, demanding, very vocal, and easy to train. She doesn't like catnip or any kind of treats I have been able to find. She has developed hyperthyroidism with age, and takes medication twice daily for it. Her kidney function is borderline. I use a drinking fountain for her that keeps the water aerated and moving. She eats both canned and dry food. She is small, weighing less than 7 pounds. The vet believes her small stature may have resulted from malnutrition as a kitten, before I got her.
Advice
- Be prepared for your cat to be a diva. She will want your attention directed where it should be, on her. She may need a variety of toys and activities, or may be content with one or two. Nora prefers her Turbo Scratcher and her fur mousies. She also likes the Kitty Teaser. No other toys interest her.
