When, Where and How I Got My Cat
My neighbor's friend traded a six week old tabby kitten for some drugs, then decided that drowning the kitten would be more cost-effective. When I heard what was going to happen, I snatched him up and brought him home. Cosmo is a healthy, happy cat, and enjoys playing with our other cat (1 yr younger than Cosmo). Since we saved his life, we consider Cosmo to be a rescue.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Cosmo is a Domestic Shorthair (Classic Tabby pattern), but every cat has its own unique personality. He's independent, and isn't too keen on sitting on my lap. Almost every time I find a comfy spot on the couch, Cosmo finds his comfy spot right beside me. He always knows when I need a sandpaper kiss, and he snuggles in my lap if I've had a rough day. My 4 yr old son loves to carry Cosmo around (toddler style), and Cosmo's always cooperative (he's been putting-up with it for nearly 2 yrs). I haven't tried to teach him any tricks, but he knows how to sit and stay when I'm filling his food bowl. I've had a couple of tabbies, and they're very healthy (regular vet checks are important).
Advice
- Cosmo is an indoor cat, he never goes outside (we don't even have a patio). My advice is to keep your cat indoors, they'll live longer (Cosmo agrees wholeheartedly).
- Cats are less temperamental and less territorial if they're spayed/neutered (Cosmo likes this idea too). If you notice a sudden change in temperament or personality, call your kitty's vet!
- Spend time playing with your kitty, they need as much human contact as possible when they're young. Cosmo was showing signs of separation anxiety, so I got another kitten for him to play with while the humans are away.
