When, Where and How I Got My Cat

I bought Neffy from a pet store BUT she was a rescue kitty. Someone had her and her litter mates in a box outside of the store. They were pretty little and by how Neffy acts now, I'm wondering if they were abused -- she does not land feet down when she is dumped or pushed off of something.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

I have always been a dog person, an Alpha dog person. I live in an appartment building now that doesn't allow dogs. So, I got a cat -- not realizing how different dogs and cats are. Well at first I treated and trained her as I would a dog and couldn't understand why all wasn't going as smoothly as usual. At times, I still have some problems when I forget that at best we are equals. She is the smartest cat I've ever seen! You know how cats are so independent that when called, they not only won't come but they won't even acknowledge you. Neffy either comes when she's called or she, at least, looks at me. I left a crock pot to simmer while I was on my computer, she came into the office meowed once and when I didn't jump to my feet, she walked away. She then came into the room clawed at the back of my chair which she knows isn't acceptable, I brushed her off, and away she went again. Moments later, she came back, walked over to my chair, put her front paws up on my leg and stared at me until I got up. She then pranced purposefully to the kitchen with me in tow to the crockpot that had boiled all over my freshly cleaned stove. Smart kitty? I think so. I've never known a dog to do that without hours of professional training. Oh boy she just did the same action and walked me to her litter box that was emitting a rather fresh and pungent odor. Did I mention she doesn't set foot into a soiled litterbox. Only fresh for my girl!

Advice

  • If your kitty is trying to tell you something, think for a minute, listen to her -- what is she saying or what is her body telling you.
