When, Where and How I Got My Cat
The last time I had a cat I was six years old. I'm 24 now. I didn't plan on getting a kitten, however. I have an 8 year old lab/basenji mix named Gracie who has been my baby since she was 8 weeks old. She is a dog that acts like a cat; this makes sense when you consider her basenji background. I went to a barbeque one weekend and my friend's cat had kittens. I ended up finding Gator and held her the whole night...by the time we left to go home I told my boyfriend that she HAD to come home with us. Since then, we can't imagine life without her!
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Gator's personality...when I first think of her, "firecracker" comes to mind. Sometimes you can watch her play for hours because she's so entertaining! The great thing about her though, is that she plays with her toys and climbs on things that she knows are her's...like certain baskets, her bed, her wicker litter box cover...etc. My boyfriend and I decided not to get her declawed. Instead, I clip her nails once a week. I can tell they are growing back when she starts climbing a little bit. I just pick up her up, lay her on her back and rub her tummy while clipping her nails. I do it once a week so that she gets used to jumping instead of climbing, but still is able to do "cat things".
When it comes to training, Gator has not had one accident sincewe brought her home almost 3 weeks ago. I clean the litter box every day to see how much she has used it. She has not had one accident and is a very clean cat! As soon as I showed her where her litter box was, she has used it ever since and continues to.
She loves to cuddle and play, and she is also independent and can entertain herself. I love when she plays and makes her little "happy noises" (or "chotles" they're called, which are characteristics of this breed) as she hops through the air playing with her mouse.
I LOVE her coloring (and so does everyone else)! Her coat is medium long in length; in the smoke (charchol gray with silver undercoat); white boots on all four paws, white stomach and chest with scattered gray stripes- absolutley adorable! She also has the trademark "M" of the Egyptian Mau breed and is extremely soft.
Her temperment is perfect- fiery personality, smart, playful, loving, loyal, funny, and perfect for us!
Advice
- Gator fits perfectly in our lives. When I was researching this breed I read that they don't always get along with other cats, so I can't really vouch for that. However, she gets along great with my dog Gracie- they are the best of friends now. My boyfriend, who usually HATES cats...loves her! People who don't like cats admit "I usually don't like cats, but this cat is so cool!" That is a great thing to hear, I must say! If that isn't convincing I don't know what is! :)
