When, Where and How I Got My Cat

I did lots of research on a cat that would best suit my lifestyle. Had to be an apartment cat. Quiet, laid back, short hair etc. The exotic fit the exact description I was looking for. I went to a cat show and bought my last exotic cat (17 years ago) from a breeder on the spot. She passed away in '08. I bought Berkeley from another breeder in April '09, when he was 6 weeks old.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

Sweet, affectionate, laid back, lazy, funny. Very well-behaved. I hate to say but not very smart, but it doesn't matter because he's sooo lovable!

Exotics are prone to PKD, which my last cat died from, but reputable breeders test for that nowadays.

His eyes need wiped with a cotton ball once or twice a day. They water due to the pushed-in face.

Advice

  • Needs some brushing or combing to keep the coat pretty & prevent shedding.
  • Definitely needs playtime, but is a pretty low-energy cat.
  • Owner must provide lots of love and affection. I don't want to say he's needy, but he loves to be held and cuddled, curls up beside me in bed, etc. etc.
