When, Where and How I Got My Cat
I received Shakira earlier this year through a Kijiji trade when the previous owner did not think it fair to not breed such a rare cat. So I did! And that is how I got Ava! She was born with long curls--I couldn't resist keeping her. I had never heard of a LaPerm before the ad on Kijiji but after researching the breed....I was hooked!
I'd Describe My Cat As…
I have brought several cats into my home both as kittens and adults; but never before have I seen a cat adjust to our family as quickly as Shakira did. She was purring on my son's lap as if she had been there all her life! And that was before we even reached home! Of course; in my disbelief; I had to check it out to. So once we were home -- I picked her up - purrrrrrring and snuggling into my arms--WOW! Any visitors she also charmed! She did seem to be the dominant cat in the household though and had several other kitties afraid to come out of hiding. Ava and her littermates were equal in timing as the other breeds I raise as far as litterbox training and eating. But I don't think I have had as quiet a litter as hers! Not in activity levels but in noise levels....if there is a meow it is usually a very soft one. These kittens out of all the litters I have raised have been the most curious! I have rescued kitten (although he would disagree) and houseplant as the kitten was hanging at the top branch at the end of my 6ft fig tree. You can't open the fridge door without some little whiskers in there as quick as you are. Anything that they can get into, under or ontop of is their playing domain! Nothing is sacred.....my house is not as kitten proof as I once thought! They follow you like little puppies so you must watch so as not to be tripped! And at 10 weeks one was playing fetch with me...he would actually bring the mouse and drop it at my feet for me to throw again...and again...and again!
Advice
- If you are the type of person who wants an independent cat because you are away from home a lot ---NOT the breed for you!
- If you are the type of person who likes knicknacks and pretty crystal around; or expect your slippers to be where you left them -- NOT the breed for you!
- If you want a kitty to meet you at the door and jump into your lap the minute you sit down and snuggle under the covers beside you at night -- this IS definitely the breed you want!
- If you love to give your kitty lots of lovin' but can't stand the chore of brushing hair -- this IS definitely the breed for you!
