When, Where and How I Got My Tortie
Cee Cee walked up to me (slowly and cautiously) in a vacant well-landscaped lot in a cold November rain. I was visiting from out of state when I saw her. I left her some food (I always carry a small animal rescue kit with me becuz the lost ones literally walk up to me), I tried to contact the local shelter-- THANK GOD they were closed that day -- they would have killed her. I contacted Alley Cat Allies when I returned home (120 miles down the line) - they sent me contact info for local TNR folks- Cee Cee AND the 17! other cats living on that vacant lot were all TNR'd-- Cee Cee eventually came home to live with me.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Initially QUITE a Scaredy Cat - she STILL loved to be brushed, from Day One. She would come runnning when i'd say "Cee CEE, Beeooottee Parlor!!!" But I could not pick her up -- she would scratch and bite. She was terrified of the littlest things, her fur was wiry, and she was skin and bones -- EVERYTHING got turned around after a patient year of caring for her. Now she has a portly little tummy (not fat, not worms), her fur is like silk, and she is a LOVE BUG!! Purr Purr Purr all day!!! I can pick her up and she will put her little head under my chin and let me give her kisses.
She ALWAYS walks ahead of me to lead the way, and kvetches (eh ehhhh!) to let me know what she wants.
She is the Tortie Queen!!!
Advice
- I love my pets For better or For Worse. Worse does not mean personality quirks -- we ALL have those. It means being patient when they need some guidance or taking them to the vet for checkups and when they are sick.
- It means putting on heavy gloves when Cee Cee, still part feral, tried to scratch and bite me, and I wanted to brush her fur (she LOVES being brushed!!) -- she rarely scratches or bites now but she will always be a little feral.
- It means making sure they have the best life possible. It means taking care of my Cancer Kitty Princess-- making her feel comfortable, loved and secure.
