Best Characteristics of the Tortoiseshell

Love being close to you. Very playful. Extremely loyal.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Tortoiseshell

Mine gets nervous if I try to pick her up. I have to be quick to scoop her up. She prefers to lay next to you, as close as she can get!

When, Where and How I Got My Tortie

I found her living under my big lawn mower three years ago. She was declawed and fixed. It took me months to gain her trust so she would come out to eat. She would typically grab the food can under the mower and stay there and this was in the winter. I shoved blankets in around her so it would protect her as much as possible. So one day I surprised her and scooped her up and took her in! We love her to pieces. She just came downstairs this spring to join the family as she always stayed in my bedroom. It's as if she finally realized we will not hurt her and she can have the run of the house!

I'd Describe My Cat As…

If we are eating anything she loves to beg! I swear she is a little hoover.

She loves to jump on my bed and start rolling around just when I am getting ready to sleep! She will sleep right above my head at night so I have to scoot down to give her room!

She generally is a quiet girl and stays to herself but gets along with the other rescued kitties I have.

Advice

  • Give them plenty of space to roam as they take a little time to feel relaxed.
  • Brush them a lot as they tend to shed some.
  • Give them plenty of LOVE as they just eat it up.
  • Don't forget playtime and treats too
