Best Characteristics of the Tortoiseshell

Torties are generally very talkative, loving (although mine is not a lap cat). She will sit beside me but not on the lap.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Tortoiseshell

My tortie is very active and talkative.

When, Where and How I Got My Tortie

I got my little bundle of joy 9 years ago when she was 12 weeks old. A stray cat had a litter of kittens at my sisters house. She socialized them and I adopted snickers. I had lost my other tortie about a year before and missed having a close bond with a soft furry purring machine. Boy did I get one.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

My shadow and best friend. She loves to be around me. When I come home at the end of the day, she has to have a 20 minute conversation with me about her day. And I have to respond or she will just get louder.

I never thought I would make it through her kittenhood. I actually had to speak to the vet, because at the age of three she still was very hyperactive, flying through the house at top speed, leaping from doorways onto the bed (once even on my face splitting my lip). My vet said that it was common for tricolored cats to not outgrow kittenhood until about 3 years old.

She did finally settle down into a loving big kitten.

Advice

  • Be prepaired for an active talkative cat, with much love to share.
  • And put up all breakable items.
