When, Where and How I Got My Maine Coon
Sammy adopted us about 5 years ago. We had just moved into our home in Florida, when we kept seeing this large orange & white cat walk up then down the sidewalk in front of our house.
He lived 4 houses down from us, and would visit each home along the way. After meowing at our front door to come in, we finally let him inside to visit. He would stay a short while then go home.
One evening we had crab-cakes for dinner and made the mistake of giving some to Sammy the visitor. Well, he wouldn't go home.
We called his owner and asked if he could stay. He said yes and the rest is history.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Sweet, cantankerous, funny, large, fluffy, very talkative, night-owl and the best company you could ever want.
Because he had gotten overweight he developed diabetes that we treated with insulin for 3 months but is now controlled with a special diet. NO dry food! Ever. Cats do not need "cereal" they are meat eaters only!!!
Advice
- Needs regular grooming/brushing.
- We find that a short haircut in the summer works very well.
- Resist the urge to overfeed due to size.
