Cat's Name & Age:

Thomas Watson 4 years old

Best Characteristics of the Tabby

Thomas is very loving, but very independent. Some days he wants to come in and sleep all day stretched across my bed. Other days, he just wants to be fed on the porch and just lounges there all day.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Tabby

I guess his independence is the most challenging thing about Thomas. I'd love for him to be happy staying inside where I feel like he is safe, but he has different ideas and loves to roam in the woods

When, Where and How I Got My Tabby

I owned a small seafood restaurant. We were about to open one Sat. night, when we noticed by our storage building a scrawny momma tabby with four little ones in tow. Not having time to do anything but put food out for them right then, we put off trying to catch them until we closed. The kittens, about six weeks old, were scared, so we had to throw towels over them to catch them. The three girls that worked for me each took a kitten home and a nice lady that lived nearby took the momma cat in. That left Thomas to come home with me. I had four dogs at that time and no other cats, but he fit in just fine! Still does!

I'd Describe My Cat As…

Thomas is very independent, And even though we have adopted six other cats since he came as our first, he still likes to think of himself as "an only cat"! He does not socialize with the other cats, and if they are getting any attention from me, he just takes off for one of his disappearing acts. It used to really bother me when he would be gone for a day or two, but we live in the country (no busy roads) and he always comes home. I always thought that a male cat that had been neutered didn't wander, but I was wrong, Thomas has proved different. He does love attention from his human family, just start petting him and he'll follow you everywhere, reaching for your hand with his paw trying to get you to "do it some more!" if you stop! He not just a beautiful cat, he's a sweet cat, and I'm so glad he got to come home with me! He has always been very healthy, was house trained almost immediately, even though most of the time, he goes to the door and asks to go out (unless it's raining!), and has never been a picky eater. Just a pleasure to have around! Also, he is still the "Top Cat"!

Advice

  • As with any cat, not just the Tabby, be sure to have regular vet visits, keep all their shots up to date, and please be sure to spay or neuter!
