Cat's Name & Age:
Tuxedo Cat 7 years
Best Characteristics of the Tuxedo
The "man" of the house. Not particularly big but solid in body structure. Loves pettings and tosses himself around next to you to get pettings. Drools like a faucet during all this.
Most Challenging Characteristics of the Tuxedo
Tough guy and likes to beat up on the girls (cats) from time to time. He can be a brat and is very independent minded. Wants to do things on HIS terms. "Talk to the tail, the ears aren't listening"
When, Where and How I Got My Tuxedo
Tuxedo came to me along with a sister (cinnamon) when I worked @ a dog grooming salon. A woman came in wanting to know where she could bring 2 kittens for adoption. After giving her some ideas, I started discussing them with her. Well one thing led to another and then I said the fatal words "can I see them". A vet visit and flea bath later, they were instantly "adopted" by me and my other 6 month old cat Ginger who did everything she was able to raise them and teach them everything she knew. Despite her sweet character, Tuxedo became the independent so-and-so we know and love.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Healthy. He is as strong as an ox, extremely independant and has no problems letting you know just who is in charge. He has a very strong tail and when it is up (all the time in my presence) it is hard to push it down. He also can curl the tip like a monkey.
He loves to snuggle up next to you, get all kinds of pettings and drools all the time through the attention. He will roll up and tumble over trying to get the best position for the best pettings. Tuxedo is not a lap cat, not part of his independant makeup. Likewise he does not like to be picked up.
He loves our gas fireplace and will lay so close in front of it, I worry he will burn up (it gets very hot). If the fireplace is not on, he will let me know his thoughts on the matter by parking himself in front of it and giving me "the look" (eyes half closed and end of tail moving [the equivalent of drumming your nails on a table]).
He eats like a dog. He will eat his food until it is gone and, without a pause, move around the corner and eat Ginger's food. Ginger is a more delicate eater and sometimes I have to close her in the utility room so she can eat without him pushing her out of the bowl.
He has a deeper voice and purrup than Ginger and I have to imitate his to let him know I am talking with him. We have short conversations. He is not much of a talker.
When sitting facing you, you can see how his tuxedo is a cut-away coat which goes nicely down into the tail.
When he is on the bed and thinks he hears things, he will pop up like a jack-in-the-box to see what might be coming his way.
Advice
- Jellaco cats are as different as their two colors. Some are sweet and loving and others leave you wondering how they are ever going to survive a year because they are always in trouble. Either way, you are guaranteed to never have a dull moment. They have LOTS of personality.
