Abandoned

O.C., Abandoned on a Freeway

What led me to adopting a shelter cat

Because my son wanted a cat for his 4th birthday. I decided to go to a cat welfare and adopt because so many of them need homes.

How many visits did you make before adopting?

Just one visit. I was there for about an hour and half just falling in love with every cat I came into contact with. It was such a fulfilling experience. I had a cat before my son was born and I had him as he was born in my home w with his mom and I kept all the kittens until they were 6 months old and gave them all away. I also gave the mom away and kept one of the kittens. He was never very personable and only slept and ate. He didn't like to be picked up or petted. I eventually gave him away after he was a year old and never wanted another. A friend suggested recently to adopt a cat who was maybe abandoned or something and that will be the cat to show you love and affection.

Advice

  • It was the best thing i ever did. I went to cat welfare with intentions to adopt a kitten, but after looking around I saw older cats and they were so beautiful and many personable, I decided to adopt older. They estimate her to be about 6-9 months I adopted an orange tabby who was found on the side of the freeway. The shelter named her Freeway, but I have officially changed her name to O.C. named by my 4 year old and it stands for orange cat :) Upon holding her she lay her head on my shoulder and kinda clung to me. I was in love and after interacting with many other cats, she stole my heart

My Cat's Name and Age at Adoption

She loves attention & loves to show affection. She is constantly purring and kneading on me. She meows at me a lot to get my attention. She loves to lie under me or on my lap & she sleeps in my bed

The Mutual Bond I Share With my Cat

When I found out she was found on the side of the freeway I wondered what kind of life she must have lived and wondered if she was just abandoned or if she had been abused and I took all that and decided I would show her love like she never felt and do all I could to let her know she was safe.

Significant Benefits of our Relationship

My children love her and my boyfried also loves her. She is so cute to watch when she is playing and so affectionate. I am so glad I picked her and she is a welcome addition to my family

Why I'd Do It All Over Again

Yes absolutely. I went from not really liking cats because I thought they lacked any personality to now being completely in love. I've been thinking she now needs some company.
