Name of Special Needs Condition (Blind, Deaf, FIV, etc)

Has a cerebral problem...not exactly sure what it is but my vet told me it definitely sounds like a problem with his cerebellum.

How I Came to Meet my Special Needs Cat

I was searching for kittens on Craigslist and came across an add for a free kitten with supplies...called the number and the lady told me his story....he fit in the palm of my hand he was sooo tiny and scrawny. i knew he was a stray as soon as i saw him because his left ear has the top part clipped off. his cerebral problem is mild, but definitely a problem that is obvious. the lady's wiener-dog found him in her yard she noticed her dog shaking something violently, turned out her dog had bender by the tummy shaking him back and forth. she rushed to save him, cared for him for two weeks until i called about the ad.

How I Care for my Special Needs Cat

Bender needs help using his litter box, if i dont show him where it is he usually will go wherever. he needs help eating sometimes and had a weird habit of standing in my pit bull's water bowl, all fours, when he drinks out of it. he is ALWAYS HUNGRY it seems like! no matter what if he smells any kind of food cooking, he meows and howls endlessly. he's the noisiest most vocal cat i've ever owned! (he's my 5th). sometimes i come home and he has pooped and peed out of his litter box and is also covered in his poop. i don't know why he does this. he does the head bobbing thing alot. i can put him on his scratching post and Bender will stay on it until i take him off of it....for hours on end. i can tell when he is bored with it because he will start crying and meowing and staring at me. he doesn't run or walk much. he can walk without falling but his motor skills are definitely off. he won't jump up or down off of anything, at least not in front of me. he will HOWL AND HOWL until i get him down from the counter after each feeding. he has been tangled in a set of blinds one night when i came home, another time i have found him pacing and howling on a coffee table, and yet another time i found him lounged on top of my microwave, had torn through the bread bag and was eating bread! he's a crazy cat. i often have to get a syringe and hand feed him water with it. he LOVES TO BE HELD and looooves being petted and talked to. he's rarely active, sleeps most of every day away. he is lazy and would much rather sit on my lap than play with a string, although, catch him at the right time and he's all for that string! he seems to only run in small spurts. he'll run for like 3 seconds and then stop but his tail does this strange twitchy thing very often especially after his little running spurts.

Advice

  • give your special kitty extra love and care. make sure your kitty gets lots of attention and affection. i didn't know my kitty was a "special" kitty when i first adopted him. but knowing now i wouldn't want it any other way!
