Cat's Name and Description
Razzle,16, the best cat I will probably ever have and Geets, 14, who I love dearly.
What I Should Have Known About my Cat
How good quality food might have spared my cats from chronic renal failure, hyperthyroidism, and they would live longer.
My Dumbest Mistake
Feeding them Friskies which is a poor quality food with grains, by-products, preservatives, and whatever else is in there that shouldn't be. I found out lately how important quality good is. I wished I had realized why Razzle shed so much throughout his life. I mentioned the shedding to the vet many times and the vet never asked what he ate and that it's contributing to this shedding, among other things.
The Results of my Dumb Mistake
My cats have chronic renal failure and one has hyperthyroidism. Razzle had to have the radioactive iodine therapy for his hyperthyroidism which cost about $1,300.00. Razzle sheds way too much. Now I will be faced with expensive vet bills as this disease progresses. They will live a shorter life span.
What I'd do differently
- To teach other cat owners to feed quality CANNED protein diet with no grains, veggies, fruit, or by-products.
- Or feed them a raw diet but research it first to know what nutrients cats need along with your vet's input.
- Get rid of the dry food. It contains too many carbohydrates which causes weight gain and is dehydrating especially for male cats.
- Also feed a variety of quality foods so cats don't become picky eaters.
