About my Cat
This photo is of Miss Kitty (estimated age 1 year), and her 6 week old kitten, Zoe. Miss Kitty was a pregnant stray cat who had her three kittens inside the ductwork of a central heating/cooling unit under a duplex apartment. The tenants didn't want to care for them, so took the four of them into my home. That was 12 weeks ago. It's been a wild, family affair!
Why I Chose This Photo
I chose the photo because Miss Kitty has been such a good mama kitty, staying close by her babies, nursing, washing and cuddling with them often. the look on Zoe's face is that mommie is doin' it "just right."
When Miss Kitty began weaning her babies, she was very tender and patient with them, with no smacking or hissing, just very subtle body language. Usually, it wouldn't be long until she would give in, and let them nurse. Miss Kitty seemed to enjoy this bonding time as the kittens as she would purr and kneed and wash and snuggle with her babies.
Tips and Tricks
- Mothers and their babies, feline or human, share common traits and behaviors. Lessons learned: Most mama kitties know what they are doing, so leave them alone and let them do it. All I ever needed to know about being a good mommie, I learned from my cat!
