How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

At the age of 50 I adopted my first cat from the ASPCA. I went to help someone else pick out a kitten, but when Abby, a 6 yr old Ragdoll looked into my eyes, it was love at first sight. Since I lived my whole previous life without a cat, it was a learning experience. As much as she loved me, she would never let me put but one hand on her at a time and would sit on my lap by her choice. She was the love of my life and when she died suddenly at age 12, Iwas devasted. I waited a year to consider another cat. This time, I wanted, loving, cuddly, friendly. That opened the door for my wonderful Bailey!

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

My husband and I went to the ASPCA and I told the lady I wanted a 1 - 3 year old female cat, that was declawed and friendly. She said "Have I got a cat for you!" She took me to meet Bailey. HOWEVER, it was a 7 month old male, fully clawed! She said she would take him from his cage and hand him to me, if I didn't like him, she would find me another. I was VERY hesitant but agreed. Well, she placed him in my arms, he climbed up, put both his arms around my neck and proceeded to kiss my face! WELL, WHO COULD SAY NO TO THAT! Bailey came home with us and has been the most loving, sweetest, amazing member of our family we could ever want. At least 5 times a day he comes and finds me, crawls up on my lap and gives me his sweetest hugs and kisses, kneads me gently, then climbs up on the very top of his 6 1/2 feet tall cat tree and surveys his kingdom. He is a beautiful fully dressed tuxedo cat with enormous green eyes. Every single day, I thank God for him and all the love he gives me. I am the luckiest person ever owned by a cat!!! Bailey deserves to be honored for his love and devotion. He is a wonderful example of all the cats and kittens just waiting to bring you love and companionship.

Advice

  • Don't believe the stories everyone says about cats; "they are independent, aloof, they don't need you like a dog, they do their own thing." That's what I thought when I got Abby but discovered cats are loving, follow you around like a dog, need constant love and attention and give it back to you ten fold! Go to your local shelter, keep your mind and heart open and the right cat will find you. In both cases I knew immediately that I HAD BEEN CHOSEN! If a cat chooses you, you are truly blessed!
