How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

She had been hit by a car on the road in front of my house when I came upon her.

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

When coming home from the park with my three dogs on our morning outing, I saw a cat lying in the road. I was sure she was dead, until I saw her chest heave. I got the dogs in the house, grabbed a few clean towels, ran out to my car and grabbed the bottom of the crate that I normally have there for emergencies, (leaving the top part in the trunk.) I ran over to her and gently lifted her onto it. Blood was dripping from her mouth and car grease was on her head. I sped off to my vet, about five minutes away. Only the vet tech was there. She took one look at this cat and said, “I can euthanize the cat and put her out of her misery.” I replied, "No, I’ll go down the street.” I pulled into a vet's office further down the road. I yelled, "Emergency!" Staff came and took her while another staff member had me fill out paperwork and give them a credit card number. They asked me her name. I explained that she was not my cat. Then I remembered a show on Animal Planet where a cat that was found was named after the school that she was found near. So I said, "Let's call her Cedar. That is the name of my road, Cedarhurst. Maybe giving her a name will help her survive."

She was placed in a warmer called a Bear Hugger to help get her stable. One of her eyes was not in sync with the other, suggesting brain damage. Her lip was split and she had some broken teeth. When I got home I made posters, using a picture the staff had emailed me, and proceeded to hang them around the neighborhood. I would hope and pray that she would survive, along with my credit card.

I received the news that she was doing much better. She was out of shock and her eyes were actually back to normal. The vet said she had never had a cat who had gotten hit by a car be able to leave the hospital the same day. I could come and get her.

Of course, no one ever claimed her as theirs. As she adjusted to her surroundings, two other cats, Hansel & Gretel; three dogs, T.T., Alphie, and Ivy; and one African Grey Timneh parrot, Bruiser; and my husband and I, it was apparent she had found her home.

When my regular vet got the chance to meet her, he said that she knew where to get hit at. She just wanted to be in a place that would be heaven on earth.
