How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

Working with a foster only rescue we found a small dilute tortie in a partner pound. 3 months old they said and feral. Upon exam at the vet she was found to be 1 year old (based on dentition) weighing 2 lbs. She was scrappy but could purr the fur off another cat at ten paces!! I fell for this little fighter and failed as her foster mom.

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

She is now blind due to probable lack of taurine in her diet that first year, but her heart is healthy. The vet was stunned that this little girl had survived on her own for so long. She had been seen for 6 months at the dump we later found out. Also, she survived a northern Alberta winter with temps normally -10-40C and killing blizzards. WOW!! She welcomes new folks by jumping on their laps and hissing as she kneads and then settles to a rumbling purr. I think hissing is a greeting for her now! She inspires me everyday with her fearless attitude. She rules over her 2 brothers with a fuzzy paw and plenty of hisses and reciprocal grooming.

Advice

  • I normally go for the older cats and still recommend them as they are harder to adopt out but are often settled and calm when you get them
  • Vet checks every 6 months, and monitor stools and voids as per your vet as these are often the first signs of illness
  • All cats should be indoors, NEVER amputate digits (declaw for those in denial)
  • Microchip all cats and don't forget to update info!!!
