How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

Jacob was abandoned in our garage during a cold spell, so young that his eyes and ears were not even open yet. Our dog, Molly, alerted us to his predicament. After several unsuccessful attempts at finding him a proper home, we decided to see if we could keep him alive until he could eat on his own. Although nearly 8 months pregnant myself, and knowing nothing about rearing a newborn kitten, a sympathetic veterinarian employee guided me on what to do. We, of course, fell in love with him as we nurtured him and watched him grow.

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

Jacob is a unique soul. He was "raised" by humans who bottle fed him, helped him go potty, and toted him to school and work in an infant chest carrier layered with warm towels. At night he slept in a plastic container next to his "parents" bed and cuddled with a stuffed cat donated by his 5 year old human "sister." He learned to clean himself by being bathed by his surrogate "mom," and dog sister, Molly, who licked him and washed him as if he were her own pup. He does not meow, but chooses to growl and tries to bark (like the dog). He can say "momma" and sounds just like his human sister to the point that my husband and I answer thinking that our daughter is calling us. He loves bananas and pork chops. He does not like strangers or his human "grandma" who accidentally scared him with a vacuum when he was younger. Although he is a BIG boy, weighing in at close to 25 lbs, he is very agile and can jump amazingly high. He loves to snuggle in the laps of his humans, especially if mom or dad are trying to use the laptop (laptops make for warm laps). If it weren't for Molly's persistence in telling us that Jacob was behind the freezer, he may have had a sad and lonely end to his short life. Jacob's tenacity and determination to survive combined with his family's unfaltering love and care have gotten him to where he is today, a happy, unique, and handsome 5 year old.
