How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

Max was born to my friend's cat, and he was only 3 days old when I had to look after him and his siblings. The mom got mastitis and my friend had to take her to the vet. I had to keep the babies warm, feed them and washed their little behinds afterwards, like the mom does. I knew Max was special, because unlike the other 3 who quietly stayed next to each other in the box, he just wanted to crawl out.

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

A week after the kittens were born, my friend went overseas for a holiday. Her maid stayed at her home and I promised I would look in on the kittens every now and then to see if they were ok. The first time I went, their eyes had just opened. When I picked him up, he stared at me with unfocussed eyes and hissed. This was the sweetest thing I've ever seen, and I lost my heart. When my friend came back, she wanted to take the kittens to a petshop. I just couldn't let Max go, so I adopted him.

Max is quite a character. He loves ice-cream, and I would always leave the bowl for him and the other 3 cats to lick out. If one of the others get there before him, he would just put his paw in the bowl and pull it away from them!

He loves talking to us, and answers back when we talk to him.

He's always laying next to me on the couch when we watch t.v. at night. When my husband says:"Max, sleeping time" he jumps up,yelping and mewing, very excited to go to bed. Sometimes, when he's feeling lazy, he would just lay still, making this real soft, kitten-like mew that sounds like no-o-oo!

He loves the bathroom, and runs ahead when I want to have a bath. Then he would sit on the edge, watching the water pour in. When I get into the bath, he jumps on the windowsill and go to sleep. Sometimes when I brush my teeth, he would pull my arm closer so he can smell what I'm doing.

He always waits on the porch for my husband to come home, and gets the first kiss. If hubby walks pass him, he would just grab his arm, pulling him closer, sticking out his neck for his kiss.

He follows me around like a little dog, and is always near me. When I work on the computer, he lies between my feet with his head on my foot. His favourite place to sleep is on my back.

He is very special and dear to us.

Advice

  • If you want to adopt a cat, make sure it is a breed that would fit into your lifestyle. Don't get a longhair cat if you do not have the time that is necessary to brush and groom it. If you will not be able to spend a lot of time playing with your cat, rather go for a mature, docile cat than a playful kitten that needs a lot of attention.
