Why You Are Thankful for Your Present Cats
I don't have any cats at the moment. But hopefully on 21.11.2010 I will be bringing home 5 new kittens from a shelter.
Past Cats I am Thankful For
They came into our lives on a sunny Saturday afternoon in July 2005, just a few weeks old, barely able to walk and eyes only partly open. Their coats were a delightful mixture of shades of gold, brown, white, cream and black. They were both the same size with designs of stripes, spots and circles on their little soft bodies identical to each other. Their feet were short with unusually long fur. Because of this they looked very cute when they walked. We named them Tabby and Tubby. Yes, they were our two new male kittens – the latest addition to our family. They were absolutely gorgeous. A treat to look at. Soon they grew into beautiful, adorable and most talked about cats in the neighbourhood and family circle.
People say cats are all the same. But it’s not true. Just like us humans, all cats whatever the breed have distinct personalities and temperaments that make them the unique, adorable and indispensable companions they grow up to become in our lives. And they have a mind of their own too! At least my cats never saw any difference in themselves and us. They wanted equal treatment, displayed very human qualities and wanted to be a part of every activity in the house.
Tabby was a docile cat who loved to eat (which we soon found out was a disease), which led to many digestive problems resulting in regular trips to the vet. He was not a nosy cat and had his own favorite spot on the living room sofa where he slept most of the time. He was the hunter of the two and would often bring home presents for us in the form of dead birds, lizards, rats and butterflies. He displayed great skills in hunting down little creatures and his waiting patiently to pounce on an unsuspecting Magpie was a very common sight. His colour that blended well with the sand and trees in the garden was an added advantage to his hunting skills.
Tubby on the other hand was a more active, very nosy and inquisitive cat who thought that every new item that came into our house should have his approval stamped on it. As a human he would have made a good inspection officer! Tubby was clearly an independent soul, and always did as he pleased even if it meant a tug of war between him and me, where he constantly emerged the winner. He also loved to rotate his sleeping place from my mom's bedroom, my bedroom and the living room and would never sleep in the same place for more than a week. He would always make a great ceremony of choosing a place in preparation to sleep. I was constantly hav
