Tribute To

Tipster aka Tippy

Quirky Little Habits of my Cat

stealing and hiding the q-tips all over the house

coming in after her morning walk about and giving me the weather report

going flippers up in the sunshine for a tummy rub

sleeping on my pillow as a cat hat

What my Cat Loved and Hated Most

food glorious food tubby like her mommy I used to say Jenny Craig two for one for us

stealing the best bits out of dinner she once clawed out the two strips of bacon in my sandwich without disturbing the top slice of bread

hated going into the carrier and yelled her way onto the plane and off

What I'll Miss Most About my Cat

everything she was quietly there and knew when I was sick and down and would lick my hand or cuddle and purr, she was my special little girl unassuming but definitely let you know when something was amiss ME NOW was her cry until you opened the door or put fresh chow in her dish

How this cat became my companion

Tippy was rescued as a kitten from a dumpster. The crew heard growling and thought it was a racoon and called wildlife control. The guy reached in a brought out a tiny tortie kitten laughing at her as she tried to spit and bite him. She was placed in my hand at the shelter, a tiny bundle of po'd puddy who was angry at the world and that anger allowed her to survive. Her name was Tortie from Hell for the first couple of weeks. She kept up this tough girl act for about a couple of weeks and decided all humans were not evil and transformed into a sweet and unassuming kitty. She became my little girl for the next 18 years.

How my cat enriched my life

She became my little girl and I was privileged to be her human for 18 years. She fought a valiant battle with renal failure at the end and for a couple of weeks I thought she was going to beat it. In fact when I first took her to the vet, when she stopped eating and was listless and had trouble walking, she popped her head out of the carrier all pert and said Hell No Lady I am going home with you. She then proceeded to make a total liar out of me by jumping off the table running around and eating the flavored pills the vet gave her.

She wasn't the beauty queen her sister kitty was and not the attention hog but she was always there and in her quiet kitty way she loved me and I loved her and she filled a huge void in my life. Through several illnesses and a car accident she would keep me company. Just the touch of her fur and low rumble of her purr would lightened my pain and see me through the day.

Lessons learned

  • she went through her illness with dignity and never complained
  • she was always there for me and knew when I needed some love
  • she could be stubborn and get really angry but never lashed out
  • she accepted my treating her without protest and sometimes at the end I think she ate the tidbits just to please me
  • she lead a quiet and unassuming life but when she left she left a huge void in my life
  • I want to come back as a pampered house cat cause she had a damn good life
  • I keep hearing her meow and sometimes I think I can she her disappearing around the corner
  • God I miss her so much it hurts
