Tribute To
Alexander
Quirky Little Habits of my Cat
He would scratch at the door when he wanted to be let in, and if he was in, and wanted to go out, he would give a very loud MEOW! that would rouse me from a sound sleep.
What my Cat Loved and Hated Most
He hated any wet food that had beef in it. He loved to play with the other cats in the household, and had such patience when Elizabeth had her kittens, and they would pounce on him. He also loved to have his belly rubbed and would move his front paws like he was swimming when I did it.
What I'll Miss Most About my Cat
Alex was my cat for 16 years. I miss knowing that he will be following me down the hall when he wanted food and they way he would climb up on my bed like it was a mountain. He also would purr every time I picked him up.
How this cat became my companion
I had dinner with a friend who lived 30 miles away. When we got back to her house, we found a black kitten in her front yard. We both assumed he belonged to her neighbor who had a cat, but when we took the kitten over there, the cat hissed at him. My friend and I took the kitten into her house, and at first decided that he would stay with her while I thought about keeping him. My friend then pointed out she was afraid that her two cats would attack the kitten, and it was decided I would take him home. The entire 30 mile trip the kitten, now named Alexander, howled the entire way.
How my cat enriched my life
Alex had more patience than most cats. He was patient with me, even when I wasn't patient with him. I was very lucky to have had him for 16 years. He was a source of unconditonal love for me. Even when I had a bad day, he was always there to give me love.
Lessons learned
- Alex taught me that there is a time to let go and how to do it with dignity.
- He also taught me more about sharing than any other cat.
- He taught me that even if I made a mistake with him, he still loved me anyway.
