Your Cat's Name, Age (when adopted and now), and Gender
My cat Lucky was adopted at the tender age of 5 to 6 weeks of age. He is a male white and orange American shorthair. We adopted him 9 years ago.
Other cats adopted after the "breakthrough" cat
Since Lucky we have adopted 12 other cats (we have reached our limit) All of them came to our door and decided they liked our house and would stay. They are all indoor cats with excellent food, health care and 13 litter boxes. They also get regular Vet care.
How I met my first cat
Lucky came in the wheelwell of our fellow Security hosts car when we all were working in Security at Animal Kingdom at Disney. We got a call from wardrobe that one of our hosts had a problem with his car. When we arrived there was a leg and nose sticking our of his door. In order to get the cat out we had to pry the wheelwell open and extricate the cat. He had a nasty cut on his leg and a broken nose, from sticking it out at the time the door was opened. Since no one wanted him we took him to the Vet and then home.
How this cat wormed its way into my heart
My husband had been telling me for 20 years, that he would never own a cat (so I never attempted to get one), let this injured baby sleep on his stomach each night to keep him warm. To this day the 16 pound cat will jump up on his stomach each night and make himself comfortable. My husband has been a pushover ever since, and we have taken many strays that were abondoned, needed care or food. One even was shot with a BB gun and needed surgery. Although we will not take in any more, we have the greatest amount of fun watching the interaction of our family playing on the many cat trees in house. They also have toys and cat scratching posts throughout the house. I guess you could say we are now cat people with my husband a reformed cat hater.
Advice
- Do not rule out the love a cat can bring, along with their agile antics. They worm their way into your heart and demand attention just like a dog. Although this is given on their terms not yours, they are worth every thing we have to do for them. One thing we do not need extra blankets in the winter, our furry friends supply us with plenty of warmth. Once you let them into your heart, they are there to stay.
