How I met my first cat

My daughter wanted a cat and rescued Missy, she had her for few months then moved house and couldn't keep her. I first met Missy when I went to my daughters flat and saw her hiding under a table.

How this cat wormed its way into my heart

Daughter pleaded with me to have Missy for her, but I said I don't like cats, I'm a dog person, she kept on at me asking me to just have her for a week and see how I went on. I said no 'cos I knew if I had her at all, I'd have to keep her for life and not keep swapping and changing the poor animal about. Reluctantly I gave in and took her with me to my lovely new home, where I lived alone. Few months later my Mum, who I was so very, very close to died, following her funeral my youngest son Andrew, (17) began to suffer with severe mental health problems. In order to deal with these traumas I completely cut myself off from everybody and concentrated on trying to help my son stay alive. The next seven years were an absolute nightmare, Andrew was eventually sectioned for over 5 years, for his own protection. Christmas over the next few years were just me and her, after the visit to the secure unit that is. I had no-one to turn too really except that little cat, she instictively knew when I needed loving and watching over. She was amazing, if I was crying at one end of the house, she knew and would come and sit close by and just keep an eye on me. Her lovely white fur mopped up many, many tears. I was off work for a while with depression, but when I went back to work she would sit on the windowsill at 5.15pm and meow at me as I pulled up in my car. It was as if she were saying "mummy" at me, it was quite comical....When things were desperate she was the reason I had to keep going. I knew she'd be waiting to greet me when I got home, so that meant I had to go home. She was my life saver. I owe her so very much, words can't describe.

She's my absolute soul mate now and I love her more than I've ever loved any man. Someone knew that she was meant to come to me and I thank God so often that she did.

I still wonder just what made me give in and take her to live with me. I still say to my daughter "How did this happen"

She was a very nervous and timid cat when she first came to me, but I took her to the vets this week to have her booster and the vet was amazed at how laid back and relaxed she is. Vet commented on how good her heart rate, was so much lower than a cat who has travelled to vets in her carrier and endured a car ride too. (she hates car rides)

I felt so proud, she also told me she's in great condition and health for cat of her age. I felt so proud.
